How to get bold in your career and live your purpose

Do you get scared when they ask you the big questions? What do you want to do with your life? What is your why? Your purpose? I did. And I felt excited. Maybe a bit frustrated.

Simply said: I experienced a range of emotions when people asked me these questions.

On paper I was living the dreamlife: good job, nice family. Everything that society expects from you. But when someone asked me “are you living your true north?”, I panicked. I knew something was off.

But I did not want to admit it. Because that would mean I would have to change something. And change is (as we all know) scary.

HOW I BECAME ALIGNED WITH MY LIFE’S PURPOSE (and you can too)

Sometimes the universe gives you a subtle nudge…. and when you don’t listen maybe you get a stone in your path. In my case, it was a rock. And I needed it.

After depression, burn-out and chronic fatigue set in, I was left with nothing.

Why did I let it come this far? That was the question I asked myself many times.

But the more important one: what was I going to do next?

Now I can honestly say that I perform daily acts of boldness. I live an authentic life. That sounds awesome, but it is not easy. We have to face daily self-sabotage and fear. But I became a conqueror.

And I can teach you too.

Here are the 5 things you need to know.

To start acting from a place of deep purpose, alignment and courage.

  1. Realize that the ”current you” is not necessarily  “who you truly are”

Here is how the human brain and our identity works. We observe everything around us and tell ourselves a story. This collection of stories represents who we are. It is our perception.

That does not mean it is true. Look for “I am…” statements and think about it.

I used to tell myself that I am not a person who is very committed to exercise. I now teach yoga 5 hours a week and it makes me feel much better than ever before. Turns out… exercise agrees with me.

The story I told myself was not true. This is how we keep ourselves from finding the truth. The only thing you have to do, is realize that you can always write a new story. Don’t let the old you hold you back from making changes in your life. I would never be a yoga teacher.

2. Start before you are ready

Our ego wants to protect us. So we don’t really like change, because it makes us unsafe. Ego prefers safe. You can help your brain get used to change. By taking action even if it makes you uncomfortable.

Remember that baby steps are good enough. It opens a new portal, as I like to call it. You show the world and yourself that you are ready to show up. To take action and that changes everything. It will show you new opportunities, get rid of the fear holding you back and will boost your biology.

Just start.

3. This is a heart, not a brain decision

Did you know that our hearts are incredibly intelligent? The renowned Hearthmath institute has done a lot of scientific research in this area. Turns out, the heart is much more helpful than the logical brain when it comes to finding purpose.

The heart is more able to regulate our emotions and it opens us up to our intuition. This makes us able to make better decisions when it comes to our inner guidance system.

Our logical, lineair brain intelligence is often hampered by past stories, false sense of self and self-sabotage. The heart is a much better compass to find and recognize the real us.

I teach students regularly how to tap into heart intelligence and it gives really interesting results. Some have experienced quick breakthroughs after being stuck for years.

4. Realize that choosing safety will keep you stuck

I explained this a lot and go into this quite extensively in my rewriting your life story course. Everything we do in life is because we’re either avoiding pain or moving toward pleasure

Choosing the safety of where you are, is nice and it indeed avoids pain. But think about this instead.

What is the 1 thing? That if you did it, would create massive results for you in life?
Probably this is what scares you the most. And that is exactly why it is worth pursuing.

What you need is the courage to choose the unknown. What if you keep everything as it is? Keep being stuck? That is pain too right? Recognize that there is a reward in getting unstuck.

5. You cannot fail

Realize that you cannot fail. If you see everything as an experience to learn and grow, there is never a problem. “Everything is happening for you.” That is my mantra, which I picked up from one of my mentors James Wedmore.
